“Marrying Mr. Darcy” Recap & Review

I absolutely love Hallmark movies. Everything I say is out of this undying, appreciative, in awe type of love. Yes, I make fun of them, but my husband and I make fun of each other all of the time, and we are annoyingly in love.

Six months ago, Elizabeth Scott (Cindy Busby) and Donovan Darcy (Ryan Paevey)

• met
• argued
• pretended not to flirt
• were obsessed with their dogs
• had a little pride and a little prejudice.

In the end, they full on flirted, full on kissed, full on fought, then full on fell in love.

And now, in the present? Congratulations are in order, because they are full on engaged! I, now, full on promise to never say full on again.

The love puppies spread the news to their very large and very involved families who rain down from the sky, pop out of gutters, and spring out from behind rose bushes to yell yipppeeeee! They are all going to help plan their wedding that they’ve decided to set in November.

One person who still needs to find out, however, is Aunt Violet (Frances Fisher). If you haven’t met her before, let me just tell you that her name should probably be Aunt Snapdragon. Aunt Cactus. Aunt Venus Flytrap.

She hasn’t been very nice.

Previously, Aunt Poison Ivy and Donovan had a falling out over her treatment of Elizabeth. Now, she is so happy to have her nephew back in her life that she decides to apologize to Elizabeth. She geniunely seems moved by how happy she makes Donovan, so she softens. But I have a feeling that it won’t last looooooong…

Life carries on as

• Elizabeth tries to find a teaching job
• Donovan works behind a big desk, but would rather work at his charity
• The Scott women start planning the November wedding

But wait. Aunt Violent (LOLOLOL) decides that they must have the wedding where all Darcys marry. And in 2 months.

I planned my wedding in 6 months and had to go on anxiety medication (not an exaggeration). TWO MONTHS?! Woo boy. Woah buddy. Slow down, Silver! No seriously, I’m going to fall off of the saddle of this bucking bronco that just appeared under me. Help.

Elizabeth, however, handles this pretty well. She only slightly seethes even though Aunt Thorn Bush politely throws a disguised manipulation at every turn.

Oh? You love that wedding dress? Well, I know a famous wedding dress designer and this is the social event of the year, and I want you to be the most magnificent bride. Oh? You want 30 people at your wedding? How about 6,000. Our 3rd cousins twice removed from Düsseldorf will never forgive us if we don’t invite them, Lizzie, my girl, and you want them to love you, don’t you? Oh? You want buttercups because they remind you of your father that is no longer living? How about lillies. They are oh so classy, darling, just like you.

Meanwhile, Donovan is working late every night. Like 2 am late. And Elizabeth is feeling lonely and forgotten. She misses hanging out with her beau, and I miss seeing the two of them together. 😦

By the way, why wasn’t it made a bigger deal that Jenna (Tammy Gillis), Elizabeth’s sister, is casually just getting home at 2 am? Maybe that’s why we haven’t seen much of Henry and Jenna. They have become nocturnal.

Elizabeth has lost control. Her wedding which used to look like a tiny garden ceremony, is now sprouting purple flowers, has grown a red bob, and is about to take over the city in pearls and heels.

Luckily, Elizabeth finally puts her foot down and picks out her reception settings without giving Aunt Crab Apple Tree time to object. This actually impresses her. What a strange woman she is.

However, Elizabeth is still distraught. She tries on the wedding dress she felt pressured to pick, and while everyone says she looks beautiful, she stares into the mirror and no longer recognizes herself, her wedding, or her relationship. She tells Donovan that she doesn’t know if she wants to get married.

In typical Darcy and Scott fashion the family is freaked and hella involved.

• Everyone wants to talk to them about it.
• Aunt Violet sheds her thorns and earns her name because she tries to convince Elizabeth to stay with Donovan.
• Finally, Elizabeth’s mom asks her if she can imagine life without him.

Donovan asks Elizabeth to meet him at their spot. He explains that he has been working late to surprise her with a month long honeymoon around the world. Sweet, but as Jenna said, misguided.

Elizabeth got an amazing teaching job. Donovan decides to work at the foundation because that’s what makes him happy. Even though the two have made up and are happy with their careers, they still can’t decide on their wedding: small intimate wedding or one worth an article in the New York Times?

What ever will they do????????

They decide to have TWO WEDDINGS. T-W-O. Two, two!

Elizabeth walks down the aisle twice. The preacher reads 1 Corinthians twice (the guests will never forget that love is patient AND love is kind). They announce Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Darcy twice. But most importantly, they kiss twice! And live happily ever after! At least until the next movie! The end! For now!

I rate Marrying Mr. Darcy, Dollywood which is a 3.75/5 on my scale of Honeymoons.

I enjoyed Marrying Mr. Darcy! I liked the cast, the sense of family, and that we got to dive deeper into these characters and their relationships. Maybe what is most fun about this series is the amount of love people have for it. The fandom is getting to a WCTH level and that makes the Twitter party extra vibrant. I’m excited for Teri Wilson’s new book Merry Christmas, Mr. Darcy and the possibility of a Darcy Hallmark Christmas movie. Can you imagine how Twitter will react??! No, I’m actually worried about it.

But, next time, can we please have more Jenna and Henry? Maybe their own spinoff? 😍 Those two are adorable.
